Safe Chemical Decontamination
Solution
Custom Chemical Shower System
Solution:
Burt Process delivered a turnkey system built around two modular skids:
Skid 1: Mixing and Chemical Feed
- (2) 600-gallon polypropylene cone-bottom mix tanks on epoxy-coated steel stands
- Guided wave radar level sensors, redundant high-level switches, conductivity and temperature sensors
- Direct drive flange-mount mixers with soft start functionality
- Pneumatically actuated stainless steel ball valves and flow sensors for city water and detergent feeds
- Common temperature and flow sensors on water feed lines
Skid 2: Distribution Assembly
- (2) Grundfos stainless steel distribution pumps with integrated VFDs, pressure sensors, and 2” isolation valves
- 35-gallon bladder tank with butyl diaphragm and pressure switch
- Bypass ball valve and stainless discharge check valves
- All necessary flex connectors and local disconnects
Chemical Storage and Dosing
- (2) 70-gallon polypropylene storage tanks with associated low-level switches
- Polypropylene/stainless steel drum pumps for detergent supply
- Paddle wheel flow sensors on feed lines with local transmitters
Controls and Automation
- NEMA 4X UL-listed main control panel
- Rockwell Optix 15” HMI with Allen-Bradley CompactLogix PLC
- AB Stratix Ethernet Switch for secure, centralized communications
- Local high-voltage panel with motor disconnects and load switches
Installation and Commissioning
- Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) conducted prior to shipment
- Two weeks of consecutive on-site startup, commissioning, and training by BPE technicians
- Loose-supplied components included solenoids, flow switches, and compressed air valves for individual shower stalls
Key System Features
- Modular design: Pre-wired, pre-plumbed skids for fast installation
- Real-time control: PLC/HMI system with full alarm management and diagnostics
- Safety assurance: Redundant sensors, pressure management, and chemical isolation
- Scalability: Designed to serve six decon showers and eight fumigation rooms
Outcome
Burt Process delivered a high-reliability chemical shower system that met all performance, safety, and scheduling requirements. The modular configuration and detailed documentation simplified installation, while the advanced instrumentation and automated controls provided the client with safe, efficient, and repeatable operation across multiple service points.
