Containerized Wastewater Treatment Solution

Containerized Wastewater Treatment Solution

Overview

Burt Process Equipment designed and delivered a fully integrated, containerized pH neutralization system (Model BPDN-150) for a manufacturing facility’s process wastewater treatment. The pre-engineered system, housed within a modified shipping container, was developed to provide a compact, turnkey solution that supports efficient treatment, operational flexibility, and environmental compliance while allowing for scalable future capacity.

Solution

Containerized pH system

Project Scope
Deployment of a pre-engineered, containerized pH neutralization system to treat process wastewater prior to discharge. The system needed to be fully self-contained, modular, and scalable to support current and future capacity.

Challenge
The client required a compact, turnkey wastewater treatment solution that could be deployed with minimal disruption to existing operations. Space limitations, variable wastewater inflow, and strict environmental compliance standards demanded a highly efficient and flexible system.

Solution
Burt Process delivered a fully integrated containerized pH neutralization system (Model BPDN-150) housed within a modified shipping container. This modular solution was designed for plug-and-play installation and included all treatment, monitoring, and control equipment necessary for autonomous operation.

System Highlights:

Containerized Construction

  • System pre-installed in a 50’L x 8’W x 9.5’H insulated steel shipping container
  • Included personnel access doors, operable cargo doors, HVAC (with heat), and LED lighting
  • Integrated floor drain for maintenance and wash-down operations

Waste Neutralization Process

  • Dual 1,500-gallon baffled polypropylene reaction tanks with gear-driven mixers and magnetic drive recirculation pumps
  • Redundant high-level alarms and inline pH monitoring to ensure real-time treatment validation
  • Flow switch and effluent pH probes installed downstream for regulatory compliance

Reagent Dosing

  • Four peristaltic metering pumps for caustic and acid dosing
  • Separate 175-gallon double-wall chemical storage tanks
  • Compact containment and chemical injection hardware mounted on dedicated polypropylene shelving

Effluent Monitoring & Flow Control:

  • 10″ U-trap effluent discharge with manual isolation valves
  • pH sensor, magnetic flow meter, sample ports, and digital data recorder for detailed effluent tracking

Control & Automation

  • NEMA 4X UL-listed control panel with Allen-Bradley CompactLogix PLC and 7” HMI touchscreen
  • Ethernet connectivity for remote diagnostics and SCADA integration
  • Built-in programming flexibility for lift station alarms and future system expansion

Execution & Support

Startup & Training

  • Two 3-day field service trips included onsite setup supervision, system commissioning, and hands-on training for plant operators

Engineering Deliverables

  • Full documentation package including:
    • System layout drawings
    • P&ID and electrical ladder diagrams
    • Complete bill of materials with part references
    • Seismic anchoring calculations
    • Operating and maintenance manuals
    • PLC logic and HMI interface loaded prior to shipment

Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)

  • System fully tested before shipment, with option for witnessed testing by owner representatives
Outcome

The containerized BPDN-150 system provided the client with a reliable, scalable, and compact wastewater treatment solution that was easy to deploy and operate. By integrating all components into a mobile unit, the project avoided complex on-site construction, reduced installation time, and met strict discharge requirements with confidence.
